I have been drawing since I was little kid. I never thought of myself as even mediocre talented so i never did much with it. I took it up in earnest back in 2008 when my husband was diagnosed with cancer. As he went thru treatments -and BEAT CANCER'S ASS- I made some remarkable progress in my drawings. With the help of some very talented Internet friends and artists (wet canvas.com) I was encouraged to take my drawing one step further. I realized the importance of good paper and learned some very valuable lessons. I took advice from some of the best graphite artists in the world. I got help and criticism for published artists and folks who have more talent than I ever dreamed about! The most important thing I learned, practice, practice, practice and once you're done that, practice some more.
With their help and a lot of patience I have begun to achieve the results I want. Many of my drawings are near photo-realistic! I pay attention to the details and I am able to capture something in my drawings that many artists can not. My use of light and shadow creates depth and helps bring the critter to life. I am able to capture a bit of something in the eyes that really tells your pets story.
I am especially honored when I am asked to draw a pet who has passed away. I can't think of an owner yet who has not cried when seeing their beloved baby again.
Drawing has enriched my life on so many levels. It would be interesting to be a world renowned artist and I guess I would like to be someday remembered for my drawings. If that doesn't happen, at least I know I was able to touch a few lives and bring joy to a few people that trusted me with their pets image.
Thank you,
Sharon
